Pairline is a browser extension that adds a second-language line next to the text already on a webpage. This policy describes what the extension actually does. It is written to match the code that ships.

• Translation runs locally through Chrome's built-in translation capabilities.
• Pairline does not send webpage text to Pairline servers for translation.
• Settings and translation cache stay on your device.

What is processed, and where

Page text. When you turn Pairline on for a page, text from that page is read inside your browser and passed to the browser's local translation capability. It is not uploaded to Pairline.

Settings. Your display mode, source language and target language are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local).

Translation cache. Translations you have already received are cached locally to avoid repeated work. The cache has a fixed size limit and is pruned automatically. You can clear it by removing the extension.

Language models. If a language pair is not yet available, Chrome may download a local language model on your device. This download and the model lifecycle are managed by your browser.

What Pairline does not do

• No advertising profile and no advertising identifiers.
• No sale or sharing of user data.
• No collection of passwords or credentials.
• No collection of form data you type.
• No automated posting, commenting, voting or liking on any site.
• No reading of browsing history for profiling.

Permissions and why they are needed

• storage — to save your settings and the local translation cache.
• Access to pages — to read the article text that Pairline displays a translation for, and to insert the translation next to the original. Pairline only acts on pages you enable it for.

NOTE (pre-release): this list is finalized against the shipped manifest.json before release.

Third parties

Pairline 0.1.0 does not integrate any third-party translation service, analytics service or advertising network. Websites you visit remain governed by their own policies.

Children

Pairline is a general-purpose reading tool and is not directed at children.

Changes

If a future version changes what is processed or where, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
